SUBMISSION GUIDELINES
We’re primarily looking for short stories and hand-drawn illustrations/artworks. (For visual art, we will consider work outside of those bounds.) We are currently closed for poetry submissions.
Please ensure short fiction does not exceed 5000 words. Please be mindful that, while not an excluding factor, we tend to shy away from flash fiction.
We’re primarily interested in weird, experimental, and literary horror.
We aren’t as interested in dark fantasy or science fiction, although we are happy to consider work that blends these genres into horror.
We do not accept work with graphic depictions of sexual violence or violence towards children.
Under no circumstances do we accept AI-generated work, and if we suspect your submission to be so, you will be blacklisted from consideration without notice.
Please include “SUBMISSION" somewhere in your email subject line.
We don’t have any requirements regarding the formatting of the submission beyond it being legible.
We accept simultaneous submissions.
We do not accept previously published written work.
We do accept previously published/printed artwork.
Those accepted retain the rights to their work.
We do not send rejection emails. We understand - and we’re sorry - but we are a very small, DIY operation with a very large slush pile.
Please send all submissions to beverlybwix@gmail.com for consideration.
If you are accepted:
We may reach out before the submission deadline to inform you and kindly request you withdraw your submission from other publications. We will also inform you in which volume you’ll be printed. We plan several volumes in advance.
Upon the closing of the submission deadline for your piece’s volume, we will reach out with an official offer of acceptance. You are free to withdraw your piece at any time before accepting this offer. However, we do ask if we’ve reached out prior (per the last paragraph) and you responded in the affirmative that you kindly not send your piece elsewhere.
Each volume’s submission deadlines and release dates can be found below:
Fall: September 15 | releases November 1
Winter: December 15 | releases February 1
Spring: March 15 | releases May 1
Summer: June 15 | releases August 1
As payment, the author/artist will receive a one-time payment of 50 USD. Those within the United States will receive a first-edition contributor copy of the volume they appear in. Those outside of the U.S. will have a first-edition contributor copy reserved, but due to costs, we’re unable to guarantee shipment.
